South Africa Hunting Safari Prices & All-Inclusive Packages

Planning a hunting safari in South Africa naturally brings up one fundamental question: What is the true cost?

Whether you are planning a bucket-list journey or your annual African expedition, budgeting should never be a guessing game. A top-tier safari is accessible to the working hunter, provided you have a clear, honest breakdown of what is covered and where extra costs arise.

Transparency is the core of our operation. When you hunt with Lapeng Safaris, you get straightforward pricing, clear inclusions, and complete financial clarity before you ever step foot on the property.

How Safari Pricing Works

โ€‹South African safari pricing is built on a straightforward two-part model:

  • Daily Rates: This operational flat fee covers your stay, meals, full staff support (licensed Professional Hunter, trackers, and skinners), hunting vehicles, field prep, and daily lodge amenities.

  • Trophy Fees: A per-animal fee charged exclusively for the game you successfully take or wound. If an animal is on your wishlist but isn't harvested, you do not pay a trophy fee for it.

This structure puts total financial control in your hands. Your final invoice is determined by the species you choose to pursue rather than rigid mandatory spending.

Breaking Down the Daily Rate

The daily rate establishes the standard of your overall experience. Across South Africa, outfitters range from basic canvas camps to five-star luxury reserves.

At Lapeng Safaris, we strike the ideal balance: world-class bushveld hunting paired with upscale, four-star lodge comfort, exceptional hospitality, and authentic South African dining.

Standard inclusions in our daily rate:

  • En-suite luxury lodge accommodation

  • All freshly prepared meals, daily snacks, and field refreshments

  • Local beers, quality wines, soft drinks, and bottled water

  • Dedicated Professional Hunter (PH) services (1x1 or 2x1 basis)

  • Full tracking, recovery, skinning, and field trophy preparation team

  • Fully equipped 4x4 hunting vehicles and fuel

  • Daily laundry and housekeeping services

  • Ground transfers from designated arrival points

Trophy Fees: Species & Selection

Trophy fees reflect species demand, abundance, and management value:

  • Entry-Level Plains Game: Highly abundant species such as Impala, Blesbok, and Warthog.

  • Mid-Tier Plains Game: Iconic African quarry including Blue Wildebeest, Zebra, Gemsbok, and Waterbuck.

  • Prized Bushveld Trophies: The elusive Greater Kudu—the crown jewel of the African bush.

  • Specialized & Premium Species: Hard-to-find or heavily managed game like Nyala, Sable, Roan, and Eland.

All-Inclusive Packages vs. Custom Itineraries

Curated safari packages combine a set number of hunting days with a specific trophy list at a discounted rate. They simplify the budgeting process and protect you from fluctuating standalone costs.

When evaluating any package, always verify:

  • Exact hunting days vs. travel/arrival days

  • Specific trophy list and substitution or upgrade rules

  • Wounded game policies

  • Observer daily rates for non-hunting family or companions

Additional Expenses to Budget For

A complete budget covers the variables outside the outfitter’s direct daily rate.

1. International Airfare Your flight to Johannesburg (O.R. Tambo International Airport) represents your primary travel cost. Book 6 to 12 months ahead, aim for mid-week departures, and verify your airline’s firearms handling policies.

2. Firearms & Ammunition South Africa requires a temporary firearm import permit (SAPS 520). While the permit carries no state fee, completing the process at the airport requires time and documentation.

Camp Rifle Hire: To avoid travel logistics, airline firearm fees, or potential transit delays, Lapeng Safaris offers fully equipped, accurately zeroed camp rifles and quality ammunition for client use.

3. Staff Gratuities Tipping is a customary way to reward exceptional field work and hospitality. A standard guideline is 10% to 15% of your total daily rate, divided among:

  • Your Professional Hunter

  • Dedicated trackers and skinners

  • Lodge hospitality, culinary, and housekeeping staff

4. Taxidermy, Dipping, Packing & Freight Transporting your trophies home is a multi-step process handled after the hunt:

  • Field Prep: Included in your daily rate (skinning, caping, salting).

  • Dip & Pack: Performed by a licensed South African taxidermist to disinfect and crate raw trophies for international export.

  • Shipping & Clearance: Ocean freight (cost-effective, 3–6 months) or air freight (fast, premium rate), plus local customs broker fees at your home port.

  • Mounting Options: Finished taxidermy can be completed locally in South Africa to take advantage of favorable exchange rates, or raw prepped trophies can be shipped directly to your home taxidermist.

5. Travel Insurance & Excursions Always secure dedicated international travel insurance that includes medical evacuation and trip cancellation. If you plan to add non-hunting excursions—such as day trips to Kruger National Park or scenic bush tours—budget for these add-ons in advance.

Our Clients Say

Our stay at Lapeng truly lived up to every bit of its meaning. From the moment we arrived, we felt not like guests, but like part of a family.

The hospitality was exceptional in every sense. Every detail was thoughtfully taken care of, making our honeymoon experience not only comfortable but unforgettable. The food was simply incredible — each meal felt like a celebration of local flavors, prepared with care and passion.

The facilities are stunning, blending perfectly with the surrounding nature, and the hunting estate itself is absolutely breathtaking. The landscapes are wild, authentic, and deeply beautiful — a place where you can truly disconnect and immerse yourself in nature.

What made this experience truly special, however, was the opportunity to engage in real hunting and to learn from Werner and Lionel. Their knowledge, passion, and respect for the land and wildlife added a depth to the experience that we will never forget.

Without a doubt, this was the highlight of our honeymoon — a place that feels like home, yet offers something extraordinary. Lapeng is not just a destination; it’s an experience that stays with you forever.

We are absolutely sure we will be back very soon!
